
More than $1,000 in skin care products stolen from Blue Mercury, police say
More than $1,000 in skin care products were stolen from Blue Mercury Monday, police said.
An employee the store on South Park Street reported observing two females enter the store whom she recognized from previous shoplifting incidents. After being momentarily distracted, she discovered between $1,000 and $2,000 worth of skin care products missing, and the females no longer on scene.
One female was described by the employee as approximately 6 feet tall, with long black hair, long eyelashes and wearing black leggings, police said. The second female was described as shorter, with a bob haircut, tie-dye pants and wearing flip flops.

THEFTS
Wednesday, Oct. 27 — An employee of CVS Pharmacy on Claremont Avenue reported two males entered the store and each stole more than $100 in merchandise before fleeing. A description was provided and patrol officers located a 55-year-old and a 58-year-old from Newark on Pine Street in possession of the stolen items. Both men were charged with shoplifting.
Friday, Oct. 29 — A woman reported that she observed a package that had been delivered to her business on Church Street by the United Parcel Service had been opened. Approximately $1,000 in clothing was removed from the package.
Friday, Oct. 29 — A resident reported that his detached garage on Gates Avenue was entered between Oct. 22 and Oct. 29. A black beach cruiser bicycle with red tires was stolen.
Saturday, Oct. 30 — A woman reported that her parked vehicle was entered between 7:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on Bloomfield Avenue. Three backpacks containing two Chromebooks, two Kindles and a MacBook were stolen.
Sunday, Oct. 31 — A man visiting friends on Upper Mountain Avenue walked out to his 2021 Porsche Cayenne and discovered an unknown individual attempting to gain access to his car. The victim yelled out and the person retreated into the passenger seat of an awaiting Honda Accord and fled the scene. Responding patrol units located the Accord at Watchung Avenue and Valley Road and were able to stop it. An 18-year-old from Newark was identified as the passenger and was charged with hindering apprehension and had outstanding warrants for his arrest. The driver, a 17-year-old from Roseland, was transported to police headquarters and released to a parent. An investigation into the matter is continuing.
VEHICLE THEFTS
Wednesday, Oct. 27 — A resident reported that her 2014 Maserati Quattroporte was stolen from her driveway on Wildwood Avenue between Oct. 20 and Oct. 21. The vehicle was recovered the next day on South 14th Street in Newark.
Sunday, Oct. 31 — A resident reported that her 2005 Saturn Ion was stolen from in front of her residence on Christopher Street. It was located later that day unoccupied in Newark.
Sunday, Oct. 31 — A resident reported that his 2019 BMW was stolen from his driveway on Melrose Place. He stated that at approximately 9 a.m. he observed a white Mercedes Benz SUV pull up in front of his house and saw four males exit. The males were seen rummaging through one of his other vehicles, which contained the key fob to the BMW. The males then accessed the BMW and fled the scene.
DWI
Wednesday, Oct. 27 — A 34-year-old from Whippany was charged with driving while intoxicated following a single car motor vehicle accident on Bloomfield Avenue.
