An iPhone, power drills and two gold rings were among the items stolen from cars this week in Montclair, police said.

On Jan. 12, a man reported that his Apple iPhone 7+ was stolen from his unlocked vehicle on Graham Terrace. Tracking capabilities indicated the phone was on Eastwood Street in East Orange before the tracking was disabled.  

On Jan. 14, a man reported his 2021 Ford work van parked on Orange Road was entered and tools were removed. Surveillance video showed a light-colored sedan pull up next to the man’s vehicle at approximately 6 a.m., police said. A male in dark clothing was seen exiting the sedan and breaking the lock of the work van to make entry. A Milwaukee tool box containing power drills was removed. A second report was taken from a residence on Trinity Place shortly thereafter where another work van was entered by force, police said. In this incident, a Mikita power drill was removed. 

On Jan. 15, a 2022 Hyundai Venue was entered while it was parked outside the American Legion Post on Bloomfield Avenue. A backpack was stolen containing a New Jersey driver's license, a military I.D., a Navy Federal bank card, $140 in cash, three Chase Bank debit cards, a $50 TD Bank gift card and two white gold rings valued at a combined approximate $2,000. The total loss is approximately $2,438.

Tuesday, Jan. 11 A 2021 Ford Bronco reported stolen out of Nutley was recovered unoccupied in a Church Street parking pot. Surveillance footage shows the vehicle arrive in the lot at 7:26 a.m. and reverse into a parking space. Three males were seen exiting the  vehicle and walking away. The vehicle was turned over to Nutley police.

Friday, Jan. 14 A 2018 Honda CRV on Christopher Street was entered during the overnight hours. The owner reported that the vehicle was entered and rummaged through, but nothing appeared to be missing. 

Friday, Jan. 14 A 2019 BMW X5 was stolen from outside a Vera Place residence. The owner reported leaving the vehicle unattended while she picked up her child. The woman said that the vehicle was unlocked but she retained possession of her key fob.

Sunday, Jan. 16 — A resident of Lloyd Road reported observing an unknown person in a white SUV exit and attempt to steal his 2021 Mercedes. The resident chased after the unknown person, who retreated to the SUV and fled the scene.
