No one injured in Claremont Avenue apartment fire
No one was injured in an apartment fire on Claremont Avenue on Friday.
Montclair Deputy Fire Chief Robert Duncan said his department received an alarm call reporting a smoke detector had activated at the apartment. The department also received several 911 calls reporting heavy smoke coming from the building.
Firefighters arrived at the building, forced the doors open and extinguished the fire, Duncan said. The apartment’s resident was not home at the time of the incident. The apartment sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage, and the rest of the building sustained smoke damage, he said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time, Duncan said. There were no reported injuries either to firefighters or to the general public, he said.
Units from West Orange, Orange, and East Orange covered the township while fire crews responded to the fire, Duncan said. The last unit left the scene at 1:50 p.m., he said.
