Audrey Ellen (Austin) Barber died peacefully at her home in Montclair on Aug. 21, 2020. She was 89.

Mrs. Barber graduated from Montclair High School and married Frank M. Barber in 1950. Their marriage spanned 64 years, until her husband passed away in 2016.

Growing up, Mrs. Barber was involved with her parents and siblings in a wide array of church activities at Union Baptist Church in Montclair.

She had a long and successful career as a pharmaceutical lab technician at Organon Pharmaceuticals in West Orange.

Mrs. Barber enjoyed company bowling and softball and was an avid gardener and admirer of all kinds of plants and flowers, especially sunflowers. She also enjoyed and was a master at reupholstering and slipcovering chairs and sofas, and she loved to sew and knit.

She loved to cook and excitedly welcomed the holidays, when she prepared her home for the family and many wonderful festivities and dinners.

Many of her weekends were filled with trips to local estate sales to search for antiques and rare household items.

Mrs. Barber is survived by her sister, Barbara Greene; two sons, Frank and Ronald, and a daughter, Karen Randolph; daughters-in-law Cheryl Barber and Laverne Barber; her grandchildren, twins Mikele and Melisa Barber, Robert and Carla Randolph, and Anthony Barber; a great-granddaughter, Ashanti Barber, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Hattie Austin; husband Frank; sisters Cordelia Edwards and Joyce Williams, and brother William Austin.

Funeral services were private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to the American Heart Association.
