Bernice Davis, of Montclair, died on Feb. 15, 2021. She was 76.

Mrs.  Davis was born in 1944 in Charlotte County, Va., to parents Carl and Lena. She was raised in Brookneal, Va.

After graduating from high school in 1963 she moved to New Jersey and received her nursing certification, starting her nursing career at St. Vincent Hospital, where she met Jimmie Davis. They married and purchased a home in Montclair, where they raised their four children until Jimmie’s death. They were married for 29 years.

While a full-time wife and mother, Mrs. Davis also had a full-time career. She continued her nursing career at St. Joseph Medical Center in Paterson for 38 years, retiring as a patient care assistant.

She was a member of Community Baptist Church for over 30 years, where she was the chairwoman of the Christian Tracks and managed the hospitality committee.

Mrs. Davis enjoyed family, church, fellowship with friends, healthy eating/living and traveling. She was very creative. She led the fitness session at a senior center.

Her pride and joy were her four children, grandchildren and great-granddaughters. She helped to raise her grandchildren, teaching them and, most of all, nurturing them. She loved to share stories of her children’s and grandchildren’s lives — their successes and achievements.

She lived a life of service and caring for others.

Mrs. Davis survived by her children, Kenneth, Keith, James and Marion; daughter-in-law, Mary; grandchildren, Kenneth, Tiara, Kendall, Justice, Aisha, Courtney and Briana; great- granddaughters, Kallijae and Kori; aunts, Etta and Carrie; siblings, Joann, Grace and Sarah; cousin, Keysha, and a host of other cousins, nephews, relatives and friends.

Private services were held Monday, Feb. 22. Arrangements were by Martin’s Home for Service.
