Bertha T. Lewis Hill, 99, a resident of Montclair for more than 80 years, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 23. Bertha was born in Cartersville, Va. to John Lewis and Irene Mayo Lewis. She relocated to Montclair as a teenager, and worked as a domestic. During World War II, she obtained employment with Westinghouse Electrical Co. in Bloomfield, where she remained until her retirement.

Bertha never lost her sweet, kind, gentle and unassuming spirit even through her illnesses. She will be sorely missed by her sisters, Gladys Urquhart and Sharon Shepherd, also brother-in-law Dr. James Shepherd, and many devoted nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bertha was deceased by her parents, her husband, James Hill, her brother, Anthony Lewis, and her sister, Anna Jane Lewis Banks.

A funeral service honoring her life was held on Wednesday, March 4, at St. Paul Baptist Church, Montclair. Interment was at Rosedale Cemetery, Montclair. Arrangements were by Cotton Funeral Home, Orange.
