Carolyn Yvonne Bussey of East Orange, formerly of Montclair, died on Jan. 13, 2022. She was 63.

Mrs. Bussey  was born to Mary Alice Martin and Wilbert Bussey in 1958 and had 13 siblings. She lived most of her childhood in the Ironbound section of Newark, where she attended the Oliver Street School and East Side High School.

Prior to finishing high school, her family relocated to Montclair, where she continued her high school education and shortly thereafter attended the Job Corps program.

For many years Mrs. Bussey worked for the law office of the late Raymond Brown as a legal assistant.

She was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church in East Orange, where, for a time, she enjoyed singing in the choir and attending service.

Mrs. Bussey always had a passion for reading, writing, music and theater. As an avid reader, she could tell you a little bit about almost anything and anybody. One of her fondest hopes was to someday open her own bookstore.

She is survived by three children, Hasana, Marquis and William; four grandchildren, Rashad, Eliijah, Xavier and Yogin; seven siblings, Willie Mae, Beverly, Kim, Clarence, Cleveland, Bridget and Brian; two aunts, Essie and Frances, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding her in death were her brothers Curly, Michael, Jerome and Pierre, and sisters Lynne and Janice.

Services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at noon at the New Hope Baptist Church of East Orange, 44 Norman St.

Arrangements were by Perry Funeral Home, Newark.

The family requests that donations be made to Autism New Jersey.
