Dominick A. Valenti, a lifelong resident of Montclair and longtime member of the Montclair police force, died on Aug. 27, 2021. He was 85.

Mr. Valenti graduated from Montclair High School in 1954 and received a degree in sociology from Montclair State University.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his community for 42 years in the Montclair Police Department, retiring as deputy chief. He was a longtime member of the St. Sebastian Society.

Mr. Valenti was especially fond of doting over his grandchildren, making wine with his sons, caring for his fig trees and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary (nee Camarco); sons, Angelo J. and his wife, Doris, Michael and his wife, Sheila, and Kenneth and his wife, Mary; daughters, Adonica and Marissa; grandchildren, Andrew, Joseph, Dominick and Celia; brother, Vincent, and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Valenti was predeceased by his parents, Angelo and Maria Rosa (nee D’Amico).

There will be a memorial Mass in October.
