Obituary: Donald C. Philpott

Donald C. Philpott, 86, of Cedar Grove, formerly of Montclair, died on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019.

Mr. Philpott was a former captain from the Montclair Fire Department, retiring after 35 years of service.

He was a community activist and leader, as well as an AAU All-American track and field athlete in the one-mile run.

He was predeceased by his siblings; John C. Philpott, Esten J. Philpott, and Myrtle Philpott Jones. 

Mr. Philpott is survived by his wife of 31 years, Laverne H. Vaughn Philpott, two children; Donald W., (Michael Filan), Lynda McLemore, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
