Obituary: Dr. Robert J. Waldron
Dr. Robert J. Waldron of Normandy Beach, formerly of Montclair and former head of pediatrics at Mountainside hospital, died peacefully on Friday, Sept. 24, 2021.
Dr. Waldron attended Regis High School, Fordham University and the State University of New York/Health Science Center of Brooklyn College of Medicine medical school, graduating in 1947.
He married his wife, Dorothy, in 1947 and they spent the next eight years in Boston and Norfolk, Virginia, while he served in the Navy. They then settled in Bloomfield, where he began his private pediatric practice.
As his practice grew, they moved to Upper Montclair, where Dr. Waldron continued to live and practice medicine for over 30 years. He was head of pediatrics at Mountainside hospital. Despite seeing over 80 patients a day at times, he always made time for his family, spending days in the summers at Normandy Beach and the family’s horse farm in Allamuchy.
He was passionate about golf and was a member of the Essex Fells and Manasquan River golf clubs in New Jersey and Indian River Plantation Golf Club in Stuart, Florida. He was also a member of the Irish & American Paediatric Society.
Dr. Waldron is survived by his six children, Robert Jr. (Claudia), Craig (Kathleen), James (Pamela), Patrice Dionot (Francois), Susan Coyle (Brian) and Dorothea Sample (Curtis); 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy M. (Cahill) Waldron; his grandson, Craig “C.J.” Waldron Jr.; his brother, Frank Waldron, and his sisters, Mary Barry and Ethel Browne.
Visitation is on Friday, Oct. 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 706 Grand Central Ave., Lavallette. A funeral Mass will be said on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pio of Pietrelcina Church in Lavallette.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Regis High School.
