Florence H. Cork, age 89, formally of Montclair, died on Monday, Oct. 14, 2019. She was a long-time resident of Montclair, and West Palm Beach, Fla., and recently moved to New Providence, RI.

Born to the late Alvar and Edith Johanson, in Oak Park, Ill., she grew up in Cicero, Ill.

Mrs. Cork and her family started life in Downers Grove, Ill, and relocated to Montclair in 1968. She was employed by Montclair State University in its student affairs department for over 15 years.

She enjoyed spending time at the Jersey shore and Cape Cod, traveling, arts and crafts fairs, and spending time with her family and watching all her grandchildren at their sporting events.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27 at Brookdale Christian Church, 1350 Broad St., Bloomfield.

Mrs. Cork was predeceased by her sister, Carole Johnson.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Harry B. Cork Jr.; her daughters Coleen (Greg) D’Alessandro and Kathy (Warren) Hoffman; her grandchildren Gregory (Jillian) and Brett D’Alessandro and Katie, Emily and Megan Hoffman; her sister Grace Seccombe, and several nieces and a nephew.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Backpacks For Life at backpacksforlife.org, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity established by her grandson, Marine Sgt. Brett D’Alessandro, to support veterans in need.
