Gloria Brown Matthews, lifelong Montclair resident, died on Thursday, March 28, 2019.  

Ms. Matthews worked as a manager at AT&T/Alcatel-Lucent for over 40 years before retiring. She was the past president of the Montclair Section of NCNW (National Council of Negro Women) and was on the board of directors at the Hollow Day Care Center and at First Montclair House. She was also a devoted member of St Mark’s, serving as a communion steward and a member of United Methodist Women.

Ms. Matthews was predeceased by her brother, Kenneth Brown Sr.

She is survived by her children, Valerie Brown-Baul (Charles) and Lisa Matthews; her siblings, Isaac Brown Jr., Diane Spencer (Clint), and Ronald Brown Sr.; her grandchildren, Christina, Earl, and Miyah; her great-grandchildren, Kaiden and Jose “Tre”; her longtime friend Jesse Moore, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A wake service for Gloria Brown Matthews will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 5 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 51 Elm St., Montclair. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment at Rosedale Cemetery, Montclair.
