
Obituary: Hilda Ianthe Davis Spence
Hilda Ianthe Davis Spence, a longtime Montclair resident, died on April 3, 2021. She was 88.
Mrs. Spence was born in 1932 in San Nicolas, Aruba, and immigrated to the United States with her father and stepmother to further her education.
She was married to Trevor Roy Spence for over 50 years and blessed with two stepchildren, Gregory and Paula. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, friend and confidante.
Mrs. Spence had an exemplary career for 41 years; she was a dedicated and well-known professional who enjoyed her position at United Jewish Appeal. One of her many accomplishments was assisting the younger generation in pursuing their careers. As a result, many who worked under her have become executives.
She enjoyed traveling, having fun times and special moments with family and friends. She loved to shop.
Mrs. Spence touched the lives of many people with her smile and elegance. She maintained her trademark sense of humor during her long illness.
She is survived by her stepdaughter, Paula Spence Richardson; grandchildren, Michael Richardson and Ashley Richardson; sisters, Gladys Van Heyningen and Shermain Davis; brothers, Dean and Trevor Davis; sisters-in-law, Ria, Anita, Maureen, Aurelia, Beatrix and Elfavincia; stepmother, Carmen Davis; numerous nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
