
Obituary: James L. VanNote III
James L. VanNote III, a longtime resident of Montclair, died peacefully on July 26, 2022, with his wife, Meghan, by his side. He was 52.
The son of James and Brigitte VanNote, he was a 1988 Montclair High School graduate and a 1992 St. Joseph's College graduate.
Mr. VanNote had a lifetime career by his mother's side at Rhodes, Van Note & Co. Realtors in Montclair and with his brother at Van Note Renovations.
He was a soccer player, a rugby player, a skier and a surfer, and was known to all as Jimmy, Little Jimmy, My love, Surferboy, Daddy, Uncle Jimmy, Nimmy, Jimmy Love, Shakes, The Baron, Jim Bone, Jim VanSmile, Super Jimmy and The Mighty Oak.
He was a proud and devoted father, a soccer Dad and a horse Dad who taught all to live with passion and love fully, the kindest soul with a never-ending will. He fought brain cancer for 10 years while silently teaching inspirational strength. Leaving nothing but love and a legacy of kindness, he will always be with us.
Mr. VanNote was the cherished husband of Meghan and father to A.J. and Kat, brother, brother-in-law and uncle to Ryan, Megan, Patrick, Nate and Tess. He is also survived by extended family and friends.
Visitation is Saturday, Aug. 6, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Caggiano Memorial Home for Funerals, 62 Grove St., with a memorial service to begin at 5. Afterward, family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at Tierney's Tavern from 6 to 9 p.m. At his request, attendees are asked to wear semicasual summer attire.
