Obituary: James Tierney, co-owner of Tierney’s Tavern
James “Jim” Patrick Tierney of Upper Montclair, a co-owner of Tierney's Tavern, died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, July 30, at age 52.
Mr. Tierney was born and raised in Montclair and graduated from Montclair High School in 1988. He spent his days either cooking the best burger in Montclair or serving drinks.
He loved playing the guitar, listening to music, the New York Yankees, the New York Giants, and the Brooklyn Nets, but was most proud of his three children.
He was predeceased by his father, Edward Joseph Tierney, and his mother, Gertrude Brennan Tierney. He is survived by his children, Dylan, Sandy, and Ryan; brothers and sisters and their spouses, Bill Tierney (Jacqueline), Mary Ellen Onofrio (David), Cathy Tierney, Edward Robert Tierney, John Tierney, and Michael Tierney; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There will be a private family burial.
In lieu of flowers, the family wants to keep Mr. Tierney's love of music alive by giving the gift of music to the next generation, and asks that you consider making a donation in his name to Jazz House Kids via jazzhousekids.org For online condolences, visit moriartyfh.com.
