James Vaughan, 99, of Cedar Grove, formerly of Montclair died on Friday, April 19, 2019.

Mr. Vaughan was born in Nelson County, Va. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.  

He was a lifelong fan of the Notre Dame Football team, and a long-time communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Montclair. He was the building manager for 188 Claremont Ave. where he made many life-long friends.

He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Claire M. Vaughan (nee Werner); his parents, Christopher and Nettie Vaughan; his sisters Frances and Evelyn and his brother William; stepdaughter Alice and his children Michael James and Mary Ellen.

Mr. Vaughan is survived by his sister, Gloria Curry and her husband John of Washington, D.C.; his son, Christopher and his wife Julie of North Easton, Mass., sons Martin of Montclair and Robert and his wife Ramona of Stroudsburg, Pa. Also his 10 grandchildren, Catherine Eriksen, Timothy Vaughan, Elizabeth Vaughan, Anna Vaughan, Judith Genneken, Michael Kornytchuk, Stephen Palmatier, Sal Palmatier, Rebecca Vaughan and Robert Vaughan and four great grandchildren, Alyssa, Steven, Luca and Owen and by his “adopted” granddaughter, Katie Begley of Montclair.

Relatives and friends will gather at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 29, at The Church of the Immaculate Conception-St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, 30 North Fullerton Ave., Montclair  for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m.  Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
