Jay-Louise Weldon, an expert in large database management and a longtime Monrtclair resident, died on Sept. 8, 2021, at the family vacation home in Ocean City after a long struggle with breast cancer. She was 77.

Mrs. Weldon was born in Camden and grew up in Collingswood, above the family business, Weldon’s Hardware. She lived for over 40 years in Montclair and developed considerable affection for the town and its people.

An exceptional student, she graduated from William and Mary College and earned a doctorate in computer science from the University of Pennsylvania.

An expert in large database management, Mrs. Weldon worked in academia, teaching at the school of business at New York University, before moving to industry. She worked at several firms, including Dialog, Inc., SHI Systemhouse and Electronic Data Systems, before moving to Hewlett Packard and retiring from there in 2007.

After retirement  she volunteered with AARP Tax-Aide and at the United Methodist Communities at Pine Ridge of Montclair. She was a dedicated regular at the exercise classes offered by Total Workout and developed many warm and lasting friendships with others in those classes.

Among her favorite retirement activities were the many road trips she and husband Mike took all over the U.S. and southern Canada, visiting family and friends along the way.

The shore with all its memories was one of her favorite places.

Besides her husband, Michael Wynne, Mrs. Weldon is survived by two sons and their spouses, Brian Wynne and Virginia Jeffries and David Wynne and Danny Krueger, and her brother, Edward Weldon III, and wife Betty (Alender) Weldon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Marie (Orlando) Weldon.

A memorial gathering for family and friends is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 16, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park St.
