Jean Wilson Moore

Jean Wilson (Bennett) Moore, of Montclair, died on March 30, 2023. She was 77. 

Ms. Moore grew up in Basking Ridge and graduated from Kent Place School in Summit. She earned her bachelor of arts in psychology from Montclair State College and her master of arts in psychology from Rutgers University-Newark. 

For many years, she worked as a real estate agent, and she also applied her artistic creativity to a number of entrepreneurial endeavors. She worked for a time at The Montclair Times and, in more recent years, taught Latin to grade school students in the Elizabeth school district.

Ms. Moore was a parishioner at St. James Episcopal Church and was a longtime member of the Junior League of Montclair, as well as the Friends of Barnet. She was very proud of her Scottish heritage and helped plan and organize the original Bonnie Brae Scottish Festival & Highland Games.

In her youth she was an equestrian, and throughout her life she maintained a love of horses and animals. She volunteered regularly with the Pound Animal Welfare Society of Montclair to help stray cats and dogs find loving homes. 

As the mother of two Eagle Scouts, she was always involved in supporting Boy Scout Troop 12 and Cub Scout Pack 5, where she served as a den leader. She also was a parent supporter of Montclair Stars Soccer and the Montclair Hockey Club. 

Ms. Moore is survived by her sons, Alexander Moore (Tracy) and Jonathan Moore (Emily), and by her grandsons, Alexander Moore II and Tyler Moore. 

She was predeceased by her parents, Harvey and Anne Bennett. 

Burial was private. 

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to a local animal shelter.
