
Obituary: Lelan Weldyn Fowlkes
Lelan Weldyn Fowlkes of Marietta, Georgia, formerly of Montclair, died suddenly on Jan. 4, 2022. He was 64.
Born in Montclair, Mr. Fowlkes was educated in the Newark, Orange and Montclair public schools. Upon graduating from Montclair High School, he attended Morehouse College in Atlanta and later made Marietta his home.
He worked in the pharmaceuticals industry for over 30 years for companies including Martin Marietta, Reid Provident Labs, Solvay, Quintiles, Q2 Solutions and IQVIA.
He was an avid photographer and a regular participant in the annual Peachtree Road Race in Georgia.
Mr. Fowlkes is survived by his siblings, Paka Kwan of East Orange, Vivian Fowlkes of Orange, Natalie Fowlkes of Green Bay, Virginia, Valerie Fowlkes-Bynum (Rodney) of Fort Washington, Maryland, Richard Fowlkes of Montclair and Amy Fowlkes of Montclair, and by nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Richard Vernon and Rosa Mae Fowlkes.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 15, at the Walls Cemetery, Jones Chapel Road, Sparta, Georgia.
Arrangements were by Slater’s Funeral Home, Milledgeville, Georgia.
