Lorraine E. Wilkinson of East Orange, a former cafeteria worker in the Montclair schools and longtime church member in the township, died on Feb. 2, 2022. She was 97.

Mrs. Wilkinson was born in 1924 in East Orange to the late Earl Chester Adams Sr. and Lillian Robinson-Adams. 

She was educated in the East Orange public school system and graduated from Clifford J. Scott High School in 1944. After graduation, her first job was with the Port Authority as a toll collector at the George Washington Bridge. She also worked as a meter maid and library assistant in East Orange.

In her mid 80s, she was a cafeteria worker for the Montclair public school system. 

Mrs. Wilkinson attended Union Baptist Church and later Trinity Presbyterian Church in Montclair as an associate member for over 20 years. 

During her leisure time, she loved doing for others and visiting friends in the hospital and nursing homes. She loved bowling, gardening, watching major league baseball games and traveling with members of the Trinity Presbyterian Church on bus trips. She attended the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast for over 30 years. 

Mrs. Wilkinson is survived by her niece, Tawana Adams; two nephews, Rodney and Roy Adams; three great-nieces, Tawayna Bailey, Gina Pendergrass and Anita Adams; one great-nephew, Steven L. Adams, and numerous other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Oscar Wilkinson; brother, Earl Chester Adams Jr.; nephew, Steven Adams, and first cousins, Dr. Cornelius E. Gaither and Gloria Gaither-Coles.
