Obituary: Margie May Johnson
Margie May Johnson died on Monday, Aug. 30, 2019.
Mrs. Johnson was born Sept. 7, 1914, in Ansonville, N.C. to David L. and Tinnie Mask McLendon.
During her early years in Ansonville, she married the late Ed Hubbard and had three children Ed Jr. and James, both deceased, and a daughter, Minnie Rowser. Years later she moved to Montclair, to seek better employment opportunities. While living in Montclair, she met and married Edward Louis Johnson, also known as “Lanky” and they had a son, David L. Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson was employed with the Westinghouse Corporation in Bloomfield, working the evening shift for over 22 years, where she was a machine operator making light bulbs. After the Westinghouse plant closed, she worked for Montclair Kimberley Academy, remaining there for 18 years before retiring.
She is survived by her sister, Ruth Thomas, age 100, of Chesapeake, Va; her two children, Minnie R. Rowser (Jimmy) of New York and David L. Johnson (Ella) of Virginia; her 15 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m Friday, Sept. 13, 2019, at Martin’s Home For Service, 48 Elm St., Montclair. A service will follow at the same location.
