Matthew A. Monetti of Woodland Park, a former longtime resident of Montclair and longtime letter carrier in town, died on Jan. 2, 2022, at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson. He was 79.

Born in Newark, Mr. Monetti resided in Bloomfield for 21 years. He subsequently lived in Montclair for 54 years and was a letter carrier for the Montclair post office for 33 years before retiring.

He then worked at First MCO for 11 years and later as a security guard at Montclair Kimberley Academy, as a crossing guard in Caldwell and most recently as a teacher’s lunch aide in West Orange.

Mr. Monetti was an avid sports fan, and his greatest joy was watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He was their biggest fan and never missed a game.

He gave everything he had to anyone who knew him. His number one goal was his family, whether it was on vacation, at a family function or at a sporting event; his time with his family was what he cherished the most.

Mr. Monetti is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Theresa (nee Pomarico); his daughters, Denise Riccio (Joseph) and Michele Cornelius (Richard); his two grandsons, Joseph Riccio and Christian Cornelius; his sisters, Frances Witczak (Jerry) and Theresa Smith (Steve); his in-laws, Angelo Pomarico (Carol) and Angela DiNapoli (the late John), and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, James and Theresa (nee Mineo).

A memorial Mass was celebrated on March 19 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Montclair.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children would be appreciated.

Arrangements were by Caggiano Memorial Home for Funerals.
