Richard Lombardi Sr., a lifelong resident of Montclair and longtime co-owner of an asphalt and paving business in town, died suddenly on Jan. 6, 2023. He was 79.

Mr. Lombardi, who was born in Montclair, graduated from Montclair High School in 1962.

He worked for his father and was eventually co-owner of G. Lombardi Paving and Excavating from 1960 until his retirement in 2018. 

He was an avid classic car enthusiast, entering and attending car shows and often showcasing his vehicles in Montclair’s Fourth of July Parade. 

He enjoyed fishing, spending time at the Jersey Shore in Wildwood Crest and Cape May, doing various handyman projects and hanging out in his garage for morning coffee with friends. 

Mr. Lombardi is survived by his wife, Anita (Fano) Lombardi; brother, Bobby Lombardi (Mary); children, MaryAnn Lombardi, Deborah (Lombardi) Skowronski (Daniel), Richard Lombardi Jr. (Maureen); stepchildren, Maria (Fano) Galeotafiore (Anthony), Victor Fano (Helen); grandchildren, Richard Lombardi III, Daniel Jr., Deanna, Alyssa, Shannon, and Sal Lombardi (Dianna), great-grandchild, Charlie Lombardi, and step-grandchildren, Dominic, Joseph, Vincent and Michael Fano.

He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald Lombardi, and his father and mother, Gianetti and Rose (Bilotta) Lombardi, and stepson, Thomas Fano.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Jan. 9 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Arrangements were by Caggiano Memorial Home for Funerals, 62 Grove St.
