Obituary: Robert G. Davis

Robert G. Davis, 96, of West Caldwell, formerly from Montclair, died at home on Friday, Oct. 18.

Mr. Davis was born in Jersey City, and the son of Robert and Ruth Davis. He lived his life in Montclair until 10 years ago, when he moved to Crane’s Mill.

He graduated from Montclair High School in 1941. Mr. Davis served in World War II in the Navy aboard the LST-454. He was a semaphore signalman. After the war, he graduated, in three years, from the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Davis was the art director for Carnrick Laboratories until 1993.

Mr. Davis volunteered for the Montclair Red Cross as a driver for the “old people” until he was 84. He was a lieutenant with the Montclair Volunteer Firefighters for many years, and was a member of the Dunworkin’ Club.

He loved to kayak, cross-country ski and hike. He took his grandkids on Elderhostel adventures.

Mr. Davis was predeceased by his wife Eva (nee Bernhardt) of 58 years.

He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia of England; and Catherine of New Providence; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, in Hinman Hall at Crane’s Mill, 459 Passaic Ave., West Caldwell.
