Robert Paul Herrmann Sr. of Bangor, Pennsylvania, formerly of Montclair and a longtime member of the Montclair Fire Department, died peacefully at his home on April 20, 2022. He was 86. 

Mr. Herrmann was born in 1935 in Orange to Leonard and Mary (Cortney) Herrmann and attended Montclair schools. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1957. 

In 1964 he became a member of the Montclair Fire Department and served for 34 years, until his retirement. After his retirement he enjoyed gardening, cooking, the beach and, especially, spending time with his family.

In June of 1956 Mr. Herrmann married Lorraine Russo, and they spent 65 years together, having three children, Gail Marie, Cheryl Ann and Robert Paul Jr.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. He was kind to everyone and always had a smile on his face. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Herrmann is survived by his wife, Lorraine; children, Gail Hockenbury (Tim), Cheryl Biggs (Steven) and Robert Jr. (Carolyn); his sister, Rose Payton; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.  

He was predeceased by five brothers, Leonard, Eugene, William, Joseph and John, and a sister, Theresa Greig.

Visitation is Monday, April 25, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park St. A Mass of Christian burial will be said at the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
