Ruth Catherine Cody Aumack, of Montclair, died on Sept. 25, 2021. She was 83.

Mrs. Aumack was born in Bayonne to George and Mary Ellis Cody and graduated from St. Aloysius Academy, Jersey City, where she met her best friends through life, Catherine Macchi, Mary Ellen Gaffney and June Rozniak, and from New Jersey State University, where she majored in education.

She was a teacher at Carteret and then at the Brunner School at Scotch Plains for 18 years. She was an acknowledged expert in early childhood education and early childhood special education. She was loaned out to other systems to help them establish developmental programs.

Mrs. Aumack was a full-time mom until her youngest child was in high school. She joined Smith Barney Investments and was recruited to Makrod Investments for the next 20 years.

She volunteered for the Bradford School PTA and led a troop of Brownies for the Montclair Girl Scouts.

Mrs. Aumack was a parishioner of St. Cassian Church, Upper Montclair, where she experienced constant spiritual energy and enjoyed several activities, especially the St. Cassian’s Women’s Bowling League.

Formerly a resident of New York City, she served on the parish council of Manhattan’s St. Ignatius Loyola Church.

Proud of her Irish heritage, she experienced an extraordinary sixth sense, called “Fe” by the Irish. She had the power of sensing and interpretation.

Mrs. Aumack traveled extensively through Europe, visiting Ireland, Belgium, Austria and Switzerland, where she enjoyed alpine skiing, Italy, where she had a conversation with the pope, St. John Paul II, and Greece. She also visited Colombia, where she adopted two of her children, and Panama. She skied in Canada’s Laurentian Mountains and throughout New York and Vermont.

Her legacy is the joy she had in her children, who continue to carry on her spirit, infusing it into their own children. She was an amazing parent.

Mrs. Aumack is survived by her husband, Raymond; her children, Denis Andrew (Brianne), Kathleen Lilliana Singh (Manjeet), Timothy Patrick (Meghan) and Ellen Marie; her grandchildren, Elijah, Isaiah, Devin and Nina Singh, Ethan and Paige Aumack, and Lucy and Madeline Aumack; her sister-in-law, Andra Cody; her niece, Shannan Reis (Jason); her nephew, Brian; Allison Aued and Meredith Trovato; close cousin and dear friend Joan Daley; several other nieces and nephews, and in-laws Donald Aumack (Diane) and James Aumack (Margaret).
