Ryan Gilbertson, of Montclair, died on July 14 after a courageous five-year battle with cancer. He was 33.

For those who did not have the pleasure to know him, he was the most wonderful, loving person you could ever know. He was warm, he was funny, he was kind. He was a private sort of person.

He loved his people, his friends of all ages and walks of life. He had the brightest calming presence. He loved his nephews and niece fiercely and so much enjoyed visiting with them in California.

He was a loving son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew and friend. He lived and worked for most of his life in our hometown of Montclair. He loved music and food and cars and fashion. He loved the N.Y. Giants.

He leaves behind his mother, Sara Jane Gilbertson of Woodland Park; his sister, Kerry Hart, and her family of Burbank, Calif.; his aunt and many cousins.

Due to the pandemic, a memorial service for Ryan will be announced.

May he rest in peace and joy.

Donations to Memorial Sloan Kettering in Ryan’s memory are appreciated.
