Stephanie Yvonne Woolridge of East Orange, formerly of Montclair, who worked as a nurse at UMDNJ for more than 35 years, died at home on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2022. She was 85.

Mrs. Woolridge was born in 1937 in Hackensack, the only child of John Stewart and Rosamond McAlpin.

She grew up in Montclair and is a graduate of Montclair High School and St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing.

She worked as a licensed practical nurse at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey for over 35 years. During her tenure at the hospital, she worked in many areas, but her most cherished position was that of drug and alcohol counselor.

In that post she was able to help many clients and patients overcome the addictions and struggles of substance abuse. Additionally, she enjoyed the continuing education opportunities the position provided.

In 1995 Mrs. Woolridge retired from UMDNJ, but her continued need to be of service provided her another opportunity at the Lennard Clinic in Newark, where she worked as medication dispenser for many years.

She enjoyed traveling (international travel and road trips alike), thrift shopping and staying on top of world, national and local news.

Mrs. Woolridge is survived by her six children, Diane, Donna, Karen, Jeffrey, John and Jennifer; her grandchildren, Kendall, Brittney, Tori, Christopher, Julia and Brandon; her great-grandchildren, Bryson, Brayden, Bellamy, Amari and Avery, and a host of other family members and friends.

She was predeceased by a great-grandchild, Lindsay.

Funeral services were Aug. 29 at Martin’s Home for Service, with burial at Rosedale Cemetery.
