Stephen A. Glasser, a longtime resident of Montclair who was the co-founder of the Legal Times newspaper, died on Aug. 25, 2022, at New York-Presbyterian Hospital after a long struggle with congestive heart failure, surrounded by his family. He was 79. 

Mr. Glasser was born in 1943 in Memphis, Tennessee, to Esther and Melvin Glasser. In 1965, he married Lynn Schreiber, and together they raised their four children: Susan Glasser of Washington; Laura Glasser of South Pasadena, California; Jeffrey Glasser of Los Angeles and Jennifer Glasser of Scarsdale, New York. 

A resident of Montclair for decades, he co-founded the Legal Times newspaper and a series of other innovative legal publishing and education businesses with his wife, his partner in business and life for 57 years. 

A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Colgate University and the University of Michigan Law School, Mr. Glasser was chairman of Sandpiper Partners. He served 29 years on the board of trustees of Bloomfield College, among many community activities.

In addition to his wife and his children, he is survived by seven grandchildren. 

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at the Montclair Art Museum. 

Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Glasser’s name to the Trustees of Columbia University, care of the Division of Cardiology, and designated to the team of Dr. Allan Schwartz, 177 Fort Washington Ave., 5 Garden North, Room 435, New York, N.Y. 10032.
