People ages 3 through 84 turned out for the Pancake Fun Run relay race — with runners handing off pans and pancakes to one another — on Bloomfield Avenue Sunday morning, raising nearly $2,000 for Ukrainian relief organizations.

The event was organized by St. James Episcopal Church and the Upper Montclair Business Association.

The Rev. Melissa Hall, St. James’ rector, said the church has committed another $1,000, bringing the amount to be donated to about $3,000. All of the money raised will be sent to the Episcopal Ukraine Relief Fund.

Seventeen teams of four people each participated, including representatives of The General Store (owned by Wendy Lacy, who helped organize the event), the Little Daisy Bakery, the church and township organizations including the Montclair Ambulance Unit, Hall said. She said the event was made possible with organizational support from Deputy Mayor Bill Hurlock.

Close to 100 people were in attendance, and community members lined the route to show their support, she said.
