
Police arrest five after high-speed chase that ends on parkway
Montclair police apprehended five Elizabeth and Newark residents who allegedly attempted burglarizing a car parked behind Grove Street Liquors, then fled, resulting in a high speed police chase ending on the Garden State Parkway, on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Shortly after midnight, police responded to the lot in the rear of Grove Street Liquors, 131 Grove St., on a report of motor vehicle breakin, according to police.
Upon seeing the police, the suspects fled in a BMW. Police tracked down the BMW in the area of Watchung Avenue and Grove Street, and at a high rate of speed. Police pursued the vehicle through town onto the Garden State Parkway South, police said.
The vehicle pulled over and three suspects fled on foot, but were soon apprehended by police. Two other suspects remained in the vehicle and were also taken into custody.
The BMW had been reported as stolen.
Quanaisa Owens, 20, and Niaja Morgan, 19, both of Elizabeth, were charged with resisting arrest and eluding; Koshua Houston, 20, and Anthony Torres, 18, both of Newark were charged with robbery resisting arrest and eluding; and a 16-year-old Elizabeth female was charged with resisting arrest, police said.
