Outpost in the Burbs presents Chicago singer Ryley Walker at First Congregational Church of Montclair on Sat. Dec. 15, 8 p.m. Walker is touring in support of Deafman Glance (out now on Dead Oceans) as well as a special new project, a complete re-recording of The Lillywhite Sessions by Dave Matthews Band (out now on Dead Oceans).

Opening the show will be Chicago based ensemble, Mute Duo.

Ryley Walker is an accomplished fingerstyle guitarist, singer, and songwriter from Chicago.

Outpost writes, "After spending a few years cutting his teeth on the city's indie and experimental music scenes, he began giving solo live performances on acoustic guitar." He has been compared to famed British folk guitarists John Renbourn, Martin Carthy and Bert Jansch.

He performs as part of Outpost's New Voices series, which presents emerging or “indie” musicians on the Outpost stage, exposing audiences to new or unfamiliar artists.

Outpost quotes Pitchfork, "Ryley Walker conjures intricate tributes to 1960s British folk, infusing lush and sprawling guitar jams with baroque flourishes. With his new album, Deafman Glance, the Chicago singer/multi-instrumentalist is expanding his sonic palette. 'I wanted to make something deep-fried and more me-sounding,' he says. That rough-hewn yet considered approach is deeply felt in his new music, which draws from ‘70s rock, adding fuzzed-out guitars and proggy textures in an imaginative blend."

In May, Walker released his fifth album, Deafman Glance, with Pitchfork saying that “after several albums of traditional, jazzy folk-rock, the Chicago-based singer-songwriter finds a more instinctive voice." First Congregational Church is at 40 South Fullerton Ave.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m.  Show starts promptly at 8:00pm.
