Strange incident: Open Amazon packages in Crescent parking deck

An employee of The Crescent parking deck on April 2 reported to police finding several opened, empty Amazon packages. A check of the surveillance cameras revealed a male with a slim build wearing a face covering enter the deck on separate occasions with the packages, open the packages and then exit, Montclair police said.

Police said the names were missing from the packages, but some still had addresses, on Bloomfield Avenue and Church Street. Police followed up at those addresses, but weren't able to find anyone missing a package, and didn't receive any reports of package thefts. Items that might have been the contents of some of the packages were also found in the deck, police said.

Thefts 

Wednesday, March 31 — A resident reported that between March 22 and 27, a package that had been delivered was stolen from his porch on Mission Street. The package contained a Riddell football facemask valued at $255.

April 1 — Someone reported that his vehicle was entered between 1 and 3 p.m. on Elmwood Avenue. A wallet containing numerous credit and debit cards was stolen. The cards were later used at various vendors, including Willowbrook Mall. 

Friday, April 2 — A resident reported a Vilano Hybrid road bicycle, valued at $480, was stolen from the resident’s porch on Union Street. The resident said the bike was secured with a wire lock. 

DWI

April 3 — A Newark resident was charged with driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop.
