Culture in brief: SVPA opens ‘Ordinary People’

Montclair High’s School of Visual and Performing Arts presents “Ordinary People,” by Nancy Gilsenan, based on the 1976 novel "Ordinary People" by Judith Guest.
"Ordinary People" was filmed in 1980, the directorial debut of Robert Redford. It starred Donald Sutherland, Mary Tyler Moore, Judd Hirsch, and Timothy Hutton. It won Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Supporting Actor for Timothy Hutton.
The play tells the story of a family coping with the death of one of their sons in a boating accident.
SVPA presents "Ordinary People" on Jan. 31, Feb. 1, and Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at The Little Theater, 141 Park Street (the George Inness Annex at MHS).
