Montclair resident Angelica Allen-McMillan will be the next commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Education, Gov. Phil Murphy announced Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Of Ocean County’s 188 new cases, 134 of those are in Lakewood, Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said. The county has a positivity rate of 5.44 percent up from the 3.70 reported on Monday, and Lakewood has a positivity rate of 27 percent. 

Murphy acknowledged that the restaurant industry has been experiencing many difficulties over the past six months, and said the state wanted to do what it could to help. 

Despite the “historic financial challenges New Jersey is facing due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” Gov. Phil Murphy said that the state school funding “would remain steady.”

The summer program is aimed at students who have been especially vulnerable during the distance learning period, including students who are behind academically, in need of social and emotional support, students with disabilities experiencing regression, and students are homeless.
