The omicron variant of COVID-19 has made scheduling a juggling act for Montclair athletics directors this winter.

Montclair Kimberley Academy wants to keep athletes safe and is taking the extra step of requiring masks for athletes while on the field.

School is back in session in the township of Montclair, and with the ban on indoor sports lifted, that means winter sports will resume.

While other high school sports teams were shutting down due to COVID-19, Montclair High School and Montclair Kimberley stayed on the field.

Montclair coaches can get back to work on Aug. 17, but the MHS football team labeled themselves a club for the summer to get a head start.

With NJ Gov. Phil Murphy giving the green light to contact sports in the state, Montclair High School has set a start date for summer practices to Aug. 17.
