Ear Piercing

My oldest daughter turned 10 on New Year’s Day and our gift to her was allowing her to get her ears pierced. My husband and I agreed on double digits for the rite of passage, because we wanted her to be old enough to be responsible for caring for the piercings, a recommendation from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

The AAP also recommends that you get the piercing done by your child’s pediatrician or a well-trained professional. Lucky for us, Grove Pharmacy in Montclair does a wonderful job with ear piercings. Piercings are done under hygienic conditions and they offer high quality earrings—gold-plated studs for $45 and solid gold for $75. The price includes the piercing and cleaning lotion.

The best part of getting ears pierced at Grove Pharmacy are the lovely ladies. Jeannine helped my daughter pick out the perfect studs (teal stones on gold), explained how to care for them, marked the spot on her ears and then called in Michelle to help. Grove uses two people so both piercings happen at the same time, because nothing is worse than having one ear done and then anticipating the pain of the next one. They counted down and by three, my 10 year old  had a little bit of bling and a big smile. They gave her a Tootsie Roll pop for a super sweet ending.
