Luna Stage and The United Tastes of America (formerly Syria Supper Club) have teamed up to co-host a memorable evening includes a full Syrian dinner and live entertainment on Sunday, March 3, from 6-9pm. This first-ever Luna Dinner is one night only, launching an annual fundraiser and community dinner series. Held at Luna Stage in West Orange, the March 3 event featuring jazz headliner Suzzanne Douglas, and supports both newly immigrated local refugee families and cutting-edge local theatre.

Suzzanne Douglas

Suzzanne Douglas will perform original and re-imaged jazz compositions with her quintet. Best known for her roles in The Parent ‘Hood with Robert Townsend, How Stella Got Her Groove Back with Angela Bassett, and Tap with Savion Glover and Gregory Hines, Douglas recently finished principal photography on the feature film, Really Love, where she co-starred with Blair Underwood. Douglas will appear in the upcoming Netflix limited series, Five, directed by Oscar-nominated Ava Duvernay.

The United Tastes of America supports recently settled refugee families in a unique and powerful model of community involvement through food. This benefit dinner will be prepared by our new Syrian neighbors who will use their traditional cooking skills to provide a mouthwatering banquet Syrian food. Meals like this, often shared in homes around the area, present an opportunity for refugees, who have been defined for too long as victims, to share knowledge and skills unique to them. Events and other programming forge connections across communities and help set new neighbors on a path of greater independence and confidence in their new lives here in in the USA.

Luna Stage produces thought-provoking new plays in conjunction with powerful community conversations. Now playing is the world premiere of Christina Gorman’s cybersecurity drama, Roan @ the Gates.
