This honoree list included Tom Robinson, founder of the Nostalgic Automobile Society; Marsha Walker, a founder of the Hollow Cadets drill team; and longtime Montclair NAACP president and foundation leader Albert Pelham.

She was a civil rights advocate, a "mother" a community of youths, a nurse dedicated to helping others and a doula who delivered 98 babies.

A trolley tour sponsored by the Montclair African American Heritage Foundation took passengers through Montclair's African American history.

The parade and festival will take place on Saturday, June 2.

Black history is the subject for a screening off “A Place to Become: Montclair Through the Eyes of the Glenridge Avenue YWCA Women (1920-1965)” on Feb. 18.
