Residents blast timing of executive sessions, ask for return of call-in comment

Council keeps six-story height limit along Bloomfield Avenue.

After the Planning Board suggested zoning changes decreasing allowable building heights from six stories to four on Bloomfield Avenue to be in line with the township’s master plan, the Township Council and its Economic Development Committee rejected them.

Some Montclair residents are questioning why Mayor Sean Spiller deviated from the previously published agenda at a recent Township Council meeting to hold public comment later in the night, after a vote that could lead to an expanded temporary skate park at Rand Park had already taken place. 

The town plans to purchase the former PNC Bank building and parking lot at 57 Park St., spending as much as $1.35 million. 

Gov. Phil Murphy was a special guest in Montclair today, swearing in Sean Spiller as Montclair’s next mayor.

The League of Women Voters of the Montclair area education fund, Aging in Montclair (AIM) and Montclair Local newspaper will host a televised-only candidates forum on Wednesday, April 22, 7 p.m.

A group of clergy came out to decry Councilwoman Renée Baskerville not being appointed as deputy mayor in June. 

The Montclair Township Council is calling on Montclair’s national representatives to do what they can to aid in the search for a missing Montclair couple in Barbados.
