d.FIT is one of the many fitness studios in Montclair, but it stands out with its cool location in an old mill on 4 Erie Street, unique group classes, personal training, childcare and free parking. d.FIT’s latest unique offering is a new program called 10KIDS, which will expose 10 teens to every fitness discipline it offers–from indoor cycling to weight training to yoga–in a free six-week program.10KIDS is more than exercise. The trainers and instructors will also discuss good food choices and help the kids to find their breath to improve their ability to cope with life’s challenges. Kelly DelRosso, Managing Partner/Marketing and Design, explains, “In the two years of planning d.FIT, Daniela and myself always knew family and community fitness would be an integral part of the studio. 10KIDS has been developed to encourage greater fitness and nutritional awareness among Essex County teens. For one teen it may be a first step to tackling obesity, for another it may be a source for improving self-image or an introduction to a future in fitness. “10KIDS is available free of charge to teens who would not otherwise have access to such a program through an application process.  d.FIT is encouraging teachers and counselors to recommend students that they feel would greatly benefit from participation.  Initial outreach has been within Montclair, although the program is available to any Essex County teen with available transportation to d.FIT each week.

The application deadline is October 14. A parent or guardian is required to register each participant in person on or before October 26. The Fall 2011 session begins on October 26. 10KIDS will meet every Monday and Wednesday at 2:30 pm for 6 weeks.

Many fitness experts will tell you to make goals, starting small and building from there, and DelRosso and the d.FIT team are doing the same. “Our long-term goal is that 10KIDS become 50…then 100.  There will be d.FIT internship opportunities for teens who excel, want to continue with their fitness goals, or learn more about the business of fitness.  In the coming year, it is our hope to take 10KIDS on the road, bringing it direct to schools.  For now, we will take it 10 kids at a time.”

Barista Kids is a proud sponsor of 10KIDS.
