The League of Women Voters of the Montclair Area and the NAACP of Montclair are holding an event to emphasize the  fact  that 10 percent of the votes cast in the Montclair election were not counted and to press for changes to avoid this happening again.

Structural issues, including the availability of affordable housing and the wealth gap, play a key role in Montclair schools' achievement gap, experts say.

Representatives from Montclair’s NAACP, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Montclair Police Department, with more than 300 residents logging in held a Zoom town hall.

The forum was co-moderated by MHS juniors Genesis Whitlock and Shayla George, who serve as the president and vice president, respectively, of the Montclair NAACP Youth Council. George is also the president of the MHS Black Student Union.

The Montclair Board of Education is being criticized for its decision to have a police officer be present at the Feb. 19 BOE meeting.
