As of Wednesday, Sept. 2, 434 districts have declared that they will be pursuing a hybrid model; 242 will be opening with all-remote education; 68 will have in-person education only, and 22 schools will have a combination of different reopening models.
Superintendent Jonathan Ponds announced, during the Board of Education’s retreat on Friday, July 17, that schools would allow parents to continue with distance learning, if they preferred, or send their children to school for in-person instruction.
While New Jersey is starting to see some encouraging trends on the rate of COVID-19 cases, Gov. Phil Murphy warned on Tuesday that the COVID-19 outbreak is far from over.
The Montclair schools will remain closed at least until April 20. At that time, the district will decide whether the schools should re-open or remain closed for an additional period of time.
Montclair High School is seeing a slight improvement in attendance, with fewer chronically absent students, and a slightly increased daily attendance rate.
