Murphy said Friday, Nov. 20, that, if the FDA approval is given, the state could receive its first shipment of 130,000 doses of Pfizer’s vaccine in mid-December, hopefully followed by a first shipment of Moderna’s vaccine in late December.
In New York, the city’s American Federation of Teachers chapter announced that members would go on strike if they felt the schools were not safe due to COVID-19. As in New Jersey, teachers in New York are prohibited from striking.
Ventilation is a factor in the district’s decision, Ponds said. The ventilation systems in the schools are sufficient for a normal school year. But this year, he said, was not a normal school year.
A districtwide survey revealed that as of July 24, 70 percent of responding families preferred an in-person, hybrid model, while 30 percent wanted remote-only learning. The district plans another survey next month.
