Operation Backpack is back again in Montclair this year. This year’s collection drive runs through August 4th. It’s Kimya Nilsen’s third year collecting backpacks in Montclair for this drive. The first year she collected 30 backpacks. Last year, she was able to donate 70 filled backpacks and more than $2000. This year’s goal is 100 backpacks and $3000.

Filled backpacks can be dropped off at the Park Street or Geyer branches of the Montclair YMCA (collection bins are in the lobby)
Monetary contributions can be made to the Montclair Team Crowdwise site.

Students in 12 Volunteer of America shelters in Northern New Jersey benefit from Operation Backpack.

How to Participate in Operation Backpack:

1. Choose a packing list.
2. Shop for a backpack and fill it with supplies on the list
3. Drop your filled backpack with label from packing list inside at either branch of the Montclair YMCA
4. No time to shop? Give money directly to Operation Backpack to purchase supplies on your behalf. Donate here http://tinyurl.com/j3rvwy2
Backpacks and supplies go to children in Northern New Jersey and New York City living in homeless and domestic violence shelters. The anticipated need this year is 20,000.
