They say the high school will have just one trainer, and two middle schools will have no art teachers. But the district says it'll rehire as necessary.

The school superintendent says the cuts are unfortunate, but "we are charged with providing our community with a balanced budget and an excellent education for our students in Montclair.”

Departing board member alleged the mayor let Montclair Education Association vet at least one candidate.

When Montclair elementary schools reopen to in-person learning next month, they’ll be operating under the same hybrid schedule first announced last summer.

A districtwide survey revealed that as of July 24, 70 percent of responding families preferred an in-person, hybrid model, while 30 percent wanted remote-only learning. The district plans another survey next month.
