Montclair administrators have been meeting with the heads of the township’s police department, recreation department, library and others on their own budgets for 2022 — working toward formulating the municipal budget that would ultimately determine how much needs to be raised in taxes this year.

A Montclair landlords group intends to sue the township for once again extending a rent-increase freeze, this time through March 2022. 

Eleven percent of the parking meters throughout Montclair are now out of commission, up from the 4.5% reported in June. And residents have taken to social media to vent their frustration over getting tickets for parking at inoperable meters.

The council has voted to allow two marijuana retail shops and five other cannabis-related businesses within Montclair’s borders.

"The key is that they aren't going to let this happen without us spending [a lot of money] litigating," Vote Montclair founder Erik D'Amato said.

Other measures — to expand anti-discrimination hiring practices, and to put such protections in place for contracting — passed unanimously.
