United Way of Northern New Jersey has announced a new memorial fund created in honor of Manuel Roger Costa, the longtime director and CEO of the former United Way of North Essex. The fund will support the work of United Way of Northern New Jersey

The fund was established by Costa’s family following his death earlier this month at the age of 75.

According to an announcement from the United Way, during his 35-year career with the Montclair-based nonprofit, which is known today as United Way of Northern New Jersey, Costa worked to improve life for those struggling to afford the basics.

Costa, along with his wife, Anne, continued to serve others by volunteering for local schools and other charitable organizations in Arkansas, where they retired.

Prior to his work at United Way, Costa enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served aboard the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War.

Donations to the memorial fund can be made in Costa’s name by mailing checks to United Way of Northern New Jersey, PO Box 6835, Bridgewater, NJ 08807.
