In brief: Veterans Day ceremony planned in Montclair

Montclair Township will host its annual Veterans Day tribute on Monday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m., in Edgemont Memorial Park.
Mayor Robert Jackson will be Master of Ceremonies. This year's event will include remarks from Marine veteran Sergeant Brett D'Alessandro who is the founder and president of Backpacks for Life, an organization that provides help to homeless veterans.
Boy Scouts Troop #12 will lead the crowd in the pledge of allegiance and local musician Cecile Williams will sing the national anthem. Glenfield Middle School students Ezra Siegartel and Asha Giancastro will speak on the meaning of Veterans Day.
Rev. Leslie Houseworth-Fields, senior pastor at St. Marks United Methodist Church, will perform the invocation, benediction and will bless the wreaths.
Also attending will be representatives from veterans organizations which include the Crawford Crews American Legion Post 251, Lt. Vincent J. Russo American Legion Post 382, Disabled American Veterans and Daughters of the American Revolution Eagle Rock Chapter.
The Montclair Community Band will perform immediately prior to and after the ceremony and the band's trumpeter Carl B. Witzig will sound "Taps."
The Montclair Police and Fire Honor Guards will open the program with the Advance of Colors and will conclude the ceremony with the Retirement of Colors.
