Brief: Weight loss and heart health lecture on Feb. 28
Dr. Kenneth Bannerman will give a lecture titled “Breaking Down Barriers to Weight Loss,” about how being overweight impacts your heart and overall health, and what you can do about it, on Thursday, Feb. 28, 6 p.m. at Montclair Public Library, 50 South Fullerton Ave. “If you are overweight you have a 22 percent chance of having metabolic syndrome, and if you are obese your chances increase to 60 percent,” Bannerman writes. Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions that include abnormal cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, and can lead to heightened risk of cardiovascular disease. Shedding pounds and exercising lowers blood pressure, blood sugar and the risk of developing heart disease. Reservations are required: summitmedicalgroup.com/events or call 908-277-8889
